Jukebox Billie

Jukebox Billie began as a character I had originally drawn for a tattoo portfolio back in early 2019. You can see some of his earliest designs below.

Truth is, none of these are actually his “original” design. The original done for the portfolio has been missing since 2020, and as of right now, I have no idea if any digital versions have survived.
See, I fell in love with that original design so much (it was actually based off an old Tim Curry album cover) I cut it off the page and used it for a mixed media painting.
And ironically, when I had finished it, I sent a picture of the painting to my dad, who said it was one of the best paintings I had ever done (and that was big coming from my dad, as compliments with him were few and far between.) Further stroking my ego, he posted it to his FB page, and some guy offered to buy it!
And I, not wanting to part with my favorite creation at that time, of course said no, unless he’d accept a reproduction, which he would.
So I made another one from scratch, and he bought it for $80. I made a sale, and got to keep my favorite work!
Sadly, among the 3 moves I made that year, the painting was lost, and I haven’t seen it since.

So, that’s the story of Jukebox Billie’s design. But what about his lore?
Billie ironically was a bit of a projection for me back when I hadn’t yet resumed questioning my gender. He’s a trans boy who, after passing away tragically young, is whisked away into the spirit world where he becomes an apprentice grim reaper under Death.
The entire comic was completed, technically. It’s in a rough state, I was originally intending on either finalizing it digitally, like in the 1 page you see above, or doing it entirely in watercolors, which you can also kinda see.
But I got overwhelmed and ended up wanting to make too many changes to the story after I had already finished it, plus there were other projects that I wanted to work on.
So, Billie was shelved indefinitely. But at least you can read his story below!
